A nice big healthy dose of absolute frustration was dished out this year when the nominations for the ARIAs were anounced earlier this week. There are several things that you could find annoying, from absolute anomaly to just things that don't make sense. I have to admit that there are also things that I'm grateful for: I had this scary image of Shannon Noll and the Veronica's getting nomiated for best album. Thankfully some better judgement was in place there.
I wont beat round the bush any longer. My number one problem really has to do wtih the Sleepy Jackson. OK - I dont like them. Who cares really, its not like I like every artist that gets nominated for album of the year, but the sleepy jackson. I just dont get it. But moreso, what I don't get is how they get nomiated for album of the year, and not group of the year?!?! How on earth does this happen. Generally speaking, album of the year is made up of a choise of nomiations from group, male and female. This year you have 3 who were nominated for group, bernard fanning, and... that's right... the sleazy jackson.
The other huge problem I have with the whole best album, and group is that The Hiltop Hoods, didnt get in there! That is just wrong. The album is dead set brilliant! Yet on the other hand, they got nomiated for breakthru artist! Hello? "The Calling" their 2003 album went Gold? Is that not breakthru enough for ya?
Other gripes?
How Human Nature is more adult contemporary than Clare Bowditch I do not know.
thats all i can say cause the aria site isnt letting me in now??? I think it must know I'm having a whinge... All in all I love the ARIAs, but I'm not really looking forward to it too much this year due to some rather poor nominations, album of the year will without much thought at all be between wolfmother and bernie. i think wolfmother is good, but not that good, and for crying out loud, 3 arias in a row for bernard fanning already??? is the way we vote for arias the same as the way we vote for governments - yeah they've been doing a good job, lets keep them in.
we'll see. i might give sleepy jackson another listen to see if i can work out what on earth is going on there???
