death penalty!

so here something interesting!
in many asian countries, if you bring drugs in (or out) you get the death penalty.
it seems the US has an interesting alternative... if you dont take your drugs (medication) then you get the death penalty. (see here)

maybe Hitler should have been more creative... it seems the US are exterminating Black people with lethal injections, the mentally ill with air marshals, and putting all the homosexuals in a ghetto (san fransisco) - maybe thats a little bit of a stretch? You go George W!

The drug laws you are referring to in asian countries probably is meant for illegal drugs like heroine, etc

yeah...?
i was being melodramatic. But at the end of the day I totally disagree with the death penalty (in all its forms and guises) so in there, lies my point.

The marshalls did the right thing.........
That clown who got hanged did the wrong thing.

the marshalls did what they were trained to do... thats what i have a problem with, that their training is leading to things like that. I'm not blaming the individuals but the system and the politics that let that happen.

as far as van nguyen goes... well i agree that he did the wrong thing. and well... if you know countries have the death penalty for that stuff you're a bit stupid (just a bit?) for still doing it.

but... i still totally disagree with the death penalty. give him 40 years in jail instead if thats what they wanna do. they still say that human life is worth something!

finally i hadnt mentioned it until now intentionally, as the media decided to make a circus out of this one case. when 2 years ago, it would have been 10 seconds just before a story on a missing chicken. and well... in 2 years time it will be the same. the media have just decided that ppl will be interested this time round.

and well... the worse thing about it is the hope that the family would have had. "the governement is going to do something" etc... it would be hard enuff for them to deal with with the whole country making a song and dance over this one specific case.

we need to either care about this stuff (which i do) or not... make up your mind australia.

Imagine if you were on the plane with Kars and MacGuyver and someone started running around claiming they had a bomb.
I know I'd be happy to be the one to pull the trigger if someone EVER threatened my family like that.

As for Van Nguyen, I think you'll find the majority of us DONT care, and a recent poll had about 75% of respondents suggest they were ok with his penalty. I know I am :)

surely shooting people dead isnt our only option! what about tasers/stunning people?

i find it hard to believe that the only option they had was kllling the guy.

thats all

as for van nguyen, i think the media has gone stupid with it all... but...

i do care about the situation, cause i disagree with the death penalty - as i value human life.

The life of one cowardly drug smuggler vs. the lives of how many people affecting directly or indirectly on a daily basis by the drug epidemic in our country?

Let him rot.

And as for the marshalls and their decisions, hindsight is 20-20 isn't it...... Easy to say what could have been done when we aren't in the heat of the moment.

adventures in missing the point???

1 - let the drug smuggler stay in prison for 40 years, fine by me. at least we are saying life is worth something that way.

2 - dont use lethal force. im sure there are other ways to do things... and no its heat of the moment stuff, its policy and procedure that is decided by higher ups. the marshalls did what they were trained to do, i have no problem with the fact they did it, but that they were trained to do it!
yeah?

1. Why let him live? Victims of drugs or associated crimes often don't get that opportunity. His life is of little value to me and many others.

2. Lethal force was, in this case, justified. He THREATENED TO BLOW UP A PLANE. Kill the idiot.

1. obviously i value human life in a different way to you. i guess it comes down to philosophical (theological) views. i find it hard to justify killing people for any reason.
i think they should be put in jail for their actions, not killed.

2. IDIOT??? the guy had a mental illness! hello??? if thats the criteria then maybe the world would be very different...
i find it hard to label someone an idiot cause of a mental illness

by the way... for interest sake the following all had bipolar

Vincent Van Gogh
Mark Twain
Michelangelo (not the turtle)
Edgar Alan Poe
Jackson Pollock
Kurt Cobain
Ludwig Van Beethoven
Virginia Woolf
Hans Christian Andersen

maybe the world would have been better without all these amazing people, who could ended up in the same situation just because they were manic deppressive!!!

at the end of the day mate, we are starting with a different set of assumptions, a different framework, mindset etc.

i disagree with where you come out, but thats just cause i start in a very different place too.

its all good. until the starting points match we will disagree on stuff like this...
and... i dare say
when/if our starting points match the world will have become a very boring place.

Glad we can agree to disagree :) Now we are getting somewhere. At the end of the day, I think that the world is a safer place without these two. So do you. We just have different ideas about how best to deal with them.
